Sidney Rice out for season with torn ACL

SEATTLE -- Veteran wide receiver Sidney Rice is out for the season with a torn ACL, Seahawks officials announced Tuesday.

Rice suffered the injury during a second-quarter collision in Monday night's 14-9 win over the St. Louis Rams.

Additional tests on Rice’s knee Tuesday showed that he tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), an injury that will end his third season with the Seahawks at midseason.

Rice caught 15 passes for 231 yards during the Seahawks’ 7-1 start and has three touchdown catches to share the team lead with Golden Tate and tight end Zach Miller.

Rice was signed in 2011 after playing his first four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. He led the team with 50 receptions for 748 yards and seven TDs last season, when he started 16 games for the first time. He played in nine games during his first season with the Seahawks, missing the first two with a shoulder injury and the final five because of a concussion. He had 32 catches for 484 yards and two TDs.

With Rice out, it could hasten the return of Percy Harvin, who started the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after having hip surgery on Aug. 1. Harvin returned to practice on a limited basis last week, but has yet to be added to the 53-man roster.

Tate, who had two touchdown catches in Monday night’s game, leads the team with 32 receptions and 439 yards. Doug Baldwin is second in both categories (23 for 372).
