Six boats destroyed, dozens saved as flames rip through Port Orchard Yacht Club
PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- A two-alarm fire at a downtown Port Orchard marina destroyed six boats and the buildings they were stored in, South Kitsap Fire said Sunday.
Firefighters were called to the Port Orchard Yacht Club shortly after 3 a.m.
When crews arrived, they found several boats were already engulfed in flames.
Several neighboring agencies joined the effort and off-duty firefighters were called in to help staff other stations.
Fire investigators said six vessels were completely destroyed, along with the boat sheds where they were housed.
No injuries have been reported.
38 other boats and structures were protected from the blaze.
South Kitsap Fire praised a quick, aggressive attack for preventing further damage.
The Kitsap County Fire Marshal is investigating the source of the fire.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Washington Department of Ecology are working together to clean up the scene and contain fuel spills.
