Smells like Hall of Fame for iconic local band
NEW YORK - Nearly two decades after Kurt Cobain's death, Nirvana may get a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The grunge ground-breakers are one of 16 nominees up for election in the museum's class of 2014. Nirvana kicked off the grunge era with its single "Smells Like Teen Spirit," from its 1991 album "Nevermind."
They followed with "In Utero" in 1993.
This is the band's first year of being eligible for inclusion in the Hall of Fame. Other nominees include KISS, Chic, Hall and Oates, LL Cool J and Linda Ronstadt.
Voting is open to fans, who can vote here. Voting runs through Dec. 10.
The top five vote-getters will be listed on a "fans' ballot" that will be tallied along with the other ballots. The inductees are chosen by a secret ballot of 600 voters, a group that includes previous inductees, music industry veterans, historians and critics.
The 29th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held in April 2014 in New York.
