Speeding driver was high on meth and had 2 kids in car - but no pants
SEATTLE -- It's bad enough that the driver was under the influence of methamphetamine when police stopped him for speeding and crashing into cars on Interstate 5 near Boeing Field. But then, police discovered that the driver was naked from the waist down and had his two young daughters in the car with him, the King County Prosecutor's Office reported.
According to the Washington State Patrol on April 20, 2013 the driver, Johnathan Lee Harty put his 4- and 6-year-old daughters in his car and told them he was taking them to the Dollar Store for toys. It was nearly 11:30 p.m. -- well past the store's closing time.
Harty reportedly was clocked speeding up to 100 mph on I-5 and witnesses said he was weaving in traffic when he hit a BMW, the Washington State Patrol said. Harty continued driving southbound and collided with a 2013 Jeep Wrangler and then a 2004 Jeep Wrangler. At that point, Harty lost control of his car and it struck a barrier and came to a stop, State Troopers said.
When WSP approached Harty, he appeared to be uninjured, but was obviously impaired by drugs. WSP reported that he had a bottle nearly filled with urine at his feet. His two young daughters were not seriously injured.
Prosecutors have charged Harty with hit-and-run, vehicular assault and reckless endangerment.
