Video captures car crash that sent woman into Puget Sound

A woman was critically injured after her car crashed into another along Alki Beach in West Seattle. The crash sent her vehicle into the waters of Puget Sound.

A woman was critically injured after her car crashed into another along Alki Beach in West Seattle. The crash sent her vehicle into the waters of Puget Sound.

Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 1300 block of Alki Avenue Southwest arriving to the scene just before 6 p.m. Sunday.

Officers found a vehicle submerged in the water and bystanders were trying to save a woman's life.

"I pulled open the blinds to see a car essentially falling into Elliot Bay, the Puget sound," said neighbor Josh Brown.

Brown lives right across the street from where the crash happened. He says he went outside and saw his neighbors trying to save the woman.

"Amazingly, there were already a number of Good Samaritans that were already helping the victim in the water," he said. "If they hadn’t been there, she absolutely would have drowned on the scene," he added.

Both the man and woman were transported to Harborview Medical Center, the woman with life-threatening injuries and the man with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both were drivers of their respective vehicles -- the woman ended up in the water. Surveillance video obtained by FOX 13 News showed the moment of impact.

Surveillance video captures crash that sent car flying into Puget Sound waters

Surveillance video obtained by FOX 13 Seattle captured a crash that sent a car flying into Elliott Bay on Sunday. A woman was critically injured in the crash.

According to police, it appears the man driving was going at a "high rate of speed" before crashing into the woman's vehicle.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives will be leading the investigation of this case. It's unclear what, if any, charges the causing driver would face.

The road where the crash happened has 25 mph speed limit. Brown says more needs to happen to prevent incidents like this.

"The straight away, here on Alki, is where the drag racing happens. And again, last night, we were woken up several times by more drag racing after somebody ended up in the water," said Brown.

Seattle Police tell FOX 13 News they are working with the community to address the traffic concerns.

At last check with hospital officials, the woman still remains in critical condition.
