Tacoma man gets deferred sentence for moving pot on Amtrak
KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — A Washington state man charged with trying to transport marijuana after claiming two bags containing 12 pounds of pot from the Amtrak station in Whitefish, Mont., has been given a six-year deferred sentence.
The Flathead Beacon reports (http://bit.ly/29k9bqp ) the sentence handed down to Marquise Constantino on Thursday means the felony drug charge will be dismissed from the Tacoma man's record if he doesn't break any laws for six years.
Court records say Constantino called Amtrak in 2014 to say he checked his bags but missed a train in Washington. He requested the bags be held in Whitefish.
An Amtrak employee had notified authorities that the luggage contained marijuana. Constantino was arrested in Whitefish after identifying the bags.
Court records say he told authorities the marijuana was bound for a customer in Wisconsin.
