Bail set at $2 million for man arrested with weapons, Molotov cocktails
SEATTLE -- King County prosecutors said a 21-year-old Nevada man arrested near the University of Washington campus Wednesday evening was discovered to have weapons, body armor and what appeared to be Molotov cocktails in the truck, along with maps of three area colleges -- UW, Seattle University and South Seattle Community College.
In addition to the maps, police said they also found some sort of literature from Brazil in Jasper's truck. UW police documents show that Jasper identifies himself as a self-employed journalist.
Citing his threat to the community and his risk of flight, the judge set the bail for Justin Jasper at $2 million.
The truck that Jasper was driving at the time of his arrest was stolen, police said. A rifle, double-barrel shotgun and the body armor were also stolen from the owner of the truck. The truck's owner, who is an acquaintance of Jasper's, declined to press charges.
It is unclear what intention's Jasper had with targeting local colleges.
“We don’t have any information that would suggest any type of attack,” said UW Police Chief John Vinson on Thursday. “We have no idea what his intentions are — this is a very active investigation and we’re trying to rule out everything at this point.”
