Man arrested after woman fatally shot in Lake Tapps

Deputies are investigating a suspicious death after a woman was fatally shot in Lake Tapps overnight. 

The shooting happened at about 1 a.m. Thursday in the 19100 block of 60th Street East. 

Pierce County Sheriff Sergeant Darren Moss told FOX 13 News that a woman in her 30s was shot outside on the street. She was taken to the hospital where she later died. 

Investigators said a 38-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were detained. According to deputies, the two were friends with the woman.

Police said the woman was released but detectives arrested the man. He was booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of 2nd-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. 

It's unknown what led up to the shooting and the investigation remains ongoing.
