2 stabbed in Everett, WA home invasion; suspect held until officers arrived
Two people were critically injured in a stabbing inside an Everett townhouse after a suspect forced his way in. Deputies say a family member subdued the suspect, whose motive remains under investigation.
EVERETT, Wash. - Police are investigating after two people were stabbed at a home in Everett Monday morning.
What they're saying:
According to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a reported burglary near 112th Street Southwest and SR-99 just after 9 a.m.
Authorities said that a known 20-year-old man arrived at the home, knocked on the door and forced his way inside after receiving no response. He allegedly began stabbing multiple people after getting inside.
A 22-year-old woman reportedly put the suspect in a chokehold for several minutes until deputies arrived at the scene.
"Absolutely courageous of the 22-year-old. Her actions potentially saved the lives of her family members and herself," said Snohomish County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Courtney O'Keefe.
Deputies said there were three victims, and two of them were taken to Providence Medical Center in critical condition.
Dig deeper:
According to investigators, the victims reportedly knew the suspect as an acquaintance.
Gabriel Hardwick showed up to the neighborhood looking for answers, saying his partner was one of the badly hurt victims. He said he believed the suspect was looking for him, as they had an on-and-off friendship.
"I thought he was alright. He told me the other day, he was like, 'I've got a gift for you', he's like, 'Where are you at? What are you doing?', I was like, 'I'm hanging out with everybody'. He knows all of them. I don't know why he did it," Hardwick said.
What they're saying:
Several neighbors described hearing the commotion and how uncommon it is for the area.
"In the middle of the night, we'd hear, you know, screaming," neighbor Lyuba said.
"It's a quiet neighborhood and what has happened, it's crazy," said Illia Leonov, a neighbor.
This is a developing story as the investigation remains active.
Editor's note: A previous version of this story reported that three people were stabbed. The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office initially said multiple people were stabbed and confirmed three victims. Authorities have since clarified that two people were stabbed, while a third victim was not. The sheriff's office also corrected the suspect's age to 20; an earlier version of the press release listed him as 24.
