Federal Way police officer accused of sexual misconduct resigns
FEDERAL WAY -- A Federal Way police officer resigned a few weeks before an interview investigation concluded he had engaged in sexual misconduct and insubordination, the department said Tuesday night.
Officer Ashley Crispin resigned effect July 8, the department said.
On April 23, the department received an indirect complaint regarding unwanted sexual advances by a Federal Way police officer. An internal investigation was initiated regarding alleged misconduct by Crispin. The officer denied the allegation and the complainant was reluctant to participate in the investigation, so the review was closed.
However, on June 5, Crispin alleged he was being threatened by the complainant. When she was questioned about this, she said she was not going to “protect Officer Crispin anymore” and provided information about Crispin’s conduct.
The internal investigation was reopened and Crispin was found to have committed sexual misconduct.
Police Chief Brian Wilson recommended that Crispin be decertified as a commissioned police officer in the state of Washington.
Crispin was a member of the Federal Way Police Department for more than seven years.
