New playground designed by kids, built by volunteers
KENT -- Kids were asked to come up with designs for a new playground in March and now they're seeing those drawings come to life.
On Friday more than 200 community volunteers in partnership with Kent Parks, Recreation & Community Services, Kent Parks Foundation, the Walt Disney Company and KaBOOM! will assemble a new playground at Turnkey Park in less than eight hours.
KaBOOM! is a national organization matching communities that need play equipment with corporate sponsors -- in this case the Walt Disney Company.
There will be a kick-off ceremony at 8:30 a.m. followed by construction until 1 p.m. The final adjustments start between 1-2:30 p.m. and a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place to dedicate the new play area once it's complete.
Turnkey Park is located at 23312 100th Ave. SE in Kent.
