Seattle-area road closures to know about this weekend

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is expected to close a handful of roadways in the Seattle area this weekend, which could cause delays for travelers.

Additionally, King County is ramping up patrols this weekend as part of the "Night of a Thousand Stars" campaign. Law enforcement will conduct high visibility patrols and add a DUI processing station through Sunday, Dec. 15.

Road closures in western WA to know about this weekend Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, crews will reduce eastbound I-90 to two lanes between Seattle and Mercer Island. The roadway will reopen by 6 a.m. on Saturday. According to WSDOT, crews will close the Rainier Avenue South on-ramps to eastbound I-90 at 9 p.m. The eastbound I-90 off ramps onto Mercer Island Way will also close at 9 p.m. In Pierce County, crews will close two lanes of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge for repairs. The closure begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday and will reopen at 9 p.m. on Sunday. The HOV lane will remain open.

Road closures in western WA to know about this weekend

Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, crews will reduce eastbound I-90 to two lanes between Seattle and Mercer Island. The roadway will reopen by 6 a.m. on Saturday.

According to WSDOT, crews will close the Rainier Avenue South on-ramps to eastbound I-90 at 9 p.m.

The eastbound I-90 off ramps onto Mercer Island Way will also close at 9 p.m.

Construction on Tacoma Narrows Bridge this weekend

In Pierce County, crews will close two lanes of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge for repairs. The closure begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday and will reopen at 9 p.m. on Sunday. The HOV lane will remain open.

SR-520 bridge closed in WA this weekend

SR-520 shuts down in both directions over Lake Washington at 10 p.m. and Dec. 14., reopening at 5 a.m. on Dec. 15.

SR-520 closures Dec 12 and Dec 14

All eastbound traffic will exit at Montlake Blvd. The SR 520 Trail will remain open.

The closures are allowing transportation crews to test Montlake Lid systems.

Expect traffic delays in Leavenworth, WA for Christmas lights

WSDOT is warning drivers about slow moving traffic in Leavenworth over the holidays. The Village of Lights: Christmastown runs through Dec. 24, which means thousands of people are going to be traveling far and wide to experience the festivities.

WSDOT is urging drivers to "stay ever true to US-2" and avoid using "false shortcuts" on:

  • North Road
  • Chumstick Highway
  • Icicle Road/East Leavenworth Road

WSDOT says if you drive along any of these roads, you will experience delays because they are residential roads not designed to handle high traffic volumes.
