Police: Man hid cell phone camera inside employee bathroom
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND -- A Kitsap County man is under arrest, accused of hiding a video camera inside a bathroom at Doc's Marine Grill popular restaurant. And police said it wasn’t the first time the man has faced accusations like this.
Scott Fuchs, 47, has been bartending at Doc's since 2009. In 2007, was accused of hiding video cameras in the bathroom of a Bremerton golf course where he worked, but those charges were dropped when a judge ruled that police botched the search warrant.
The cell phone camera was discovered in a unisex bathroom by an 18-year-old employee who then called police. According to court documents, the camera was hidden between the toilet and a trash can.
“It’s a shock. The whole restaurant and staff and everybody is in shock,” Doc’s owner Tom Aydelotte said.
Aydelotte only found out about Fuchs’ 2007 charges of voyeurism a few weeks ago – and that’s when he says he had a heart-to-heart with Fuchs.
“He assured me he had counseling, spent years going through therapy, and I believed him,” Aydelotte said. “He’d been exemplary as an employee.”
Police listened in on phone calls between Fuchs and his mother while he was in jail.
Court documents state that Fuchs told his mother, “I’m not gonna get out of this one the way I did the last time. I guess I have a problem. I deserve this.”
Fuchs went on to say, “I have no excuses and I don’t know what to say. I am terribly sorry to put you through this again.”
Aydelotte fired Fuchs and barred him from the property. Now, he has his fingers crossed and is hoping his business won’t be affected.
“I hope people can look past this one individual and see we’re still a great restaurant that’s a fun place to have a meal,” he said.
So far there is no indication that the camera was placed in any restrooms used by customers.
Fuchs’ bond was set at $25,000, and he remains in custody.
