Teen, man arrested in connection with U-District carjacking; investigated for other crimes
SEATTLE - Police arrested a man and a teen girl in connection with a carjacking and possibly connected to the assaults and robberies in Seattle’s University District this week.
On Tuesday, officers received a report at 5 p.m. of four men assaulting someone near 45th Street and 15th Avenue. The caller said the men kicked and punched the person until they passed out, then left the area.
About 45 minutes later, two women said they were walking near 45th and 18th Avenue when they were jumped by three men and a woman. They said their attackers pulled up in a Mercedes sedan in an alleyway and started punching them, while one of the men used a Taser on them.
Some bystanders heard the commotion and entered the alleyway, and the suspects jumped back into their car and sped off.
At about the same time, police said a food delivery driver told police he was pulled from his car near 47th Street and University Way. He said two men attacked him, then one stole his car and sped off, then the other ran from the scene.
Around 8:15 p.m., police were called to at least two failed carjackings, then an armed robbery at 42nd Street and University Way at 11:45. The suspects reportedly forced employees into a back room, then ordered them to hand over their phones and wallets, and ran off with them.
On Wednesday night, officers were flagged down by two people near 42nd Avenue and University Way about a group of people drinking and threatening pedestrians.
After officers talked to the group, they learned that two people in the group were involved in a recent carjacking in the neighborhood.
A 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, who was reported missing in Bellingham, were taken into custody.
The teen was booked into the King County Youth Service Center and the man was booked into the King County Jail.
Police said they will continue to investigate the two other men in the group.
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the department’s Robbery Unit at (206) 684-5535.
