Gold Bar Family Grocer hostage suspect surrenders; no injuries to victim

A suspect who held a victim hostage inside the Gold Bar Family Grocer on Croft Avenue on Monday night has surrendered, according to Snohomish County deputies.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office and the SWAT Team responded to the grocery store around 7:30 p.m. for reports that an armed man was holding one person hostage inside the store.

Courtney O'Keefe with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office says no one else was in the store at the time when the situation unfolded.

It's unclear if the man and the victim were shopping or if they were both employed at the grocery store.

The man is believed to have behavioral health issues, O'Keefe said.

State Route 2 closed between Sultan and Gold Bar for a short period while negotiations were underway.

At 9:54 p.m., Snohomish County deputies tweeted that the suspect surrendered and is in custody. There are no injuries to the hostage victim, deputies say.
