Tacoma Police arrest man in connection to Monday fatal shooting

Tacoma Police have arrested a suspect in a fatal shooting on Monday afternoon.

Detectives found probable cause during their investigation to arrest a 31-year-old man, who they booked into Pierce County Jail for second-degree murder.

Officers were called around 1 p.m. to reports of a shooting near S 12th St and S Rochester St. They arrived and found a different 31-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police attempted lifesaving medical treatment.

Tacoma Fire personnel arrived shortly after and declared the man deceased.

An alarming sight for a 76-year-old resident who did not want to be identified. She says she walked out to the sound of sirens when she noticed several first responders "trying to save the man's life" when she found out he didn't survive. "That's terrible," she said. She says vandalism, and car thefts are a few of the issues plaguing the gated community.

She’s not alone.

Evan Bailey has only lived at the Lakeside Landing Apartments for about six months but says he's already dealt with rattling situations.

"We've had squatters across the hallway from us, and they've actually shot through our wall," Bailey said. Fortunately no one was home, but Bailey says the bullet holes in his kitchen are still visible despite the incident happening a month ago.

Christopher Rodriguez says his one-year lease at the complex is coming up. He's up in the air about whether he'll resign. He and his girlfriend have now witnessed what he says is a troubling year.

Over the summer they captured what appears to be and FBI raid at a home across from them.

"They were drawing weapons at someone walking them down," Rodriguez said.

In April, TPD also responded to the complex for another shooting. Larry Darnell "Trae" Marshall III was a 16-year-old Foss High School football plater, he was shot and killed.

Overall, neighbors says it’s been a tough year.

"It's definitely a lot to take in.," Rodriguez said.

"The community just needs change," Bailey said.

Detectives are investigating this shooting as a homicide. It is still unknown what led up to the shooting.
