Transportation secretary calls for major project review
OLYMPIA -- The state's new transportation secretary announced a comprehensive review program for three of the state's largest transportation projects, hoping to secure further accountability and avoid missteps like cracks in the concrete pilings for the new 520 Bridge.
State Transportation Secretary Lynn Petersen announced her plan to conduct a full review of the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement, the State Route 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV program and the Interstate 5 Columbia River Crossing projects.
Ron Paananen, former WSDOT administrator and project director, will lead the reviews. He will consider and recommend any improvements to make projects more cost-effective and quicker to deliver.
The reviews are scheduled to be complete by Sept. 30, and the results will be made public shortly after.
