Washington, Oregon warn Columbia River fish could be contaminated
You may want to avoid eating resident fish in the Columbia River.
Wildlife officials in Oregon and Washington are telling people not to eat more than one meal per week of fish caught along a 150-mile stretch of the river, due to mercury and PCB contamination.
Contaminated fish include bass, bluegill, carp, catfish and sturgeon.
They say fish caught between Bonneville Dam and Ruckel Creek, a mile upstream, should not be eaten at all. The advisory does not apply to migratory fish like salmon and steelhead because they spend most of their time at sea.
It's not clear how long the advisory will last.
