Whatcom county community coming together to help homeless
BELLINGHAM - July 26 nd, mark the date! Hundreds of volunteers and dozens of businesses and service providers in Whatcom county will be spending the day offering free services to more than 500 homeless residents. It's called the Fifth Annual Project Homeless Connect, and it brings together 250 community volunteers. The volunteers will provide services such as dental care, medical exams, vision and hearing screening, women's health care, veterans and housing assistance.
Project Homeless Connect's goal is to help more than 500 area homeless, connecting them with over 50 service providers in Whatcom County. "This is our community's way of engaging people with the issue of homelessness," said Dan Hammill, Program Director at Whatcom Volunteer Center. "When you volunteer at this event, you make a difference in someone's life," Hamill said.
