The University of Washington has reached a contract extension with women's basketball coach Tina Langley after the Huskies made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The school announced the deal on Thursday, which is a six-year, $7.1 million extension through the 2031-32 season, according to Percy Allen of The Seattle Times.
"Over the past five seasons, we have witnessed the continued ascent of Washington women's basketball under the leadership of Coach Langley," athletic director Pat Chun said in a statement. "She has distinguished herself as both an exceptional coach and an outstanding leader. We are fortunate to have her leading our program and look forward to building on the strong foundation she has established."
The Huskies posted a 22-11 record this season with a 10-8 mark in Big Ten Conference play. Washington earned a 6-seed in the Women's NCAA Tournament, beating South Dakota State 72-54 in the first round, before losing to 3-seed TCU, 62-59, in overtime. TCU advanced to the Elite Eight before losing to 1-seed South Carolina.
"I'm so grateful to President Jones, Pat, Erin [O'Connell], and our entire administrative team for the opportunity to continue being a part of the amazing community here at Washington. Their wholehearted commitment and support of our student-athletes and entire program is deeply felt," Langley said in a statement, "It is an honor and a blessing to serve alongside such a high-character group of young women and outstanding coaching staff. Washington is a special place, and we are so excited for what's to come."
Langley has been with the Huskies since 2021 and has led Washington back to being an NCAA Tournament contender. Washington went 7-14 in 2020-21 in their final year under prior head coach Jody Wynn. After a 7-16 campaign in Langley's first year at UW, the Huskies have won at least 16 games in each of the last four seasons, all of which were better than any of Wynn's four seasons at the helm.
The 22 wins this season were the best by the Huskies since going 29-6 in Kelsey Plum's final year at Washington in 2016-17.
