NOAA released its annual winter outlook for the U.S. Thursday, and those who like chilly, rainy winter days with copious amounts of mountain snow -- and maybe a dabble with snow in the lowlands on occasion -- will be happy to see what their forecasters are thinking for our region.

A very impressive "bomb cyclone" is centered about 500 miles west of Washington State coast right now. Thankfully, the storm is tracking north and won't have much of an impact on the Pacific Northwest.

At 10:21 a.m. Thursday, hundreds of thousands of people in Washington state will participate in a major earthquake and tsunami drill as the Great Shakeout takes place. 

A system in the western Pacific Ocean that was once Tropical Storm Namtheun last week is now expected to put on a quite a show as its journey across the ocean nears the U.S. West Coast and it turns into what's known as a "bomb cyclone."

Western Washington woke up to widespread light rain today. This will break up into on and off showers as we get into the afternoon. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms along the Washington coast this afternoon. Showers should wrap up later on tonight. Highs today around the Puget Sound area will top out in the upper 50s.

Other than a few areas of fog in the south sound, we are looking at beautiful mostly sunny skies this morning. Expect a filtered sunshine look at times today with high clouds in the mix. This will likely be the nicest day of the coming week because the rain returns Wednesday.

A beautiful, dry Fall day across the Pacific Northwest. Most of us not only enjoying the break from the rain, but some blue skies peeking through the cloud cover. Monday's highs running cooler than average again.  Normal for this time of year is 60 and will drop to 59 Tuesday. 

We will have a nice break from the rain through Tuesday. High temperatures will make it into the mid 50s today with mostly cloudy skies and some afternoon sunbreaks.
