20-month-old boy in serious condition after car backs over him
CONCRETE, Wash. – A 20-month-old boy was seriously injured Tuesday when a car backing out of a parking stall rolled over the child, the Washington State Patrol said.
The child was transported to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, where his condition was listed as serious. WSP said the boy suffered multiple broken bones and burns.
The State Patrol said the accident occurred at 43200 Baker Lake Road in Concrete. A Nissan Maxima driven by Lynden Fox, 36, was backing out of a parking stall, and Fox apparently failed to see the child behind the car.
In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, Trooper Keith Leary said the toddler had been sitting in a child seat that he climbed out of and walked behind the vehicle as the driver was backing out. Fox and his friend were babysitting the boy at the time of the incident; the boy's parents were not present at the time of incident.
Fox was arrested on six outstanding warrants, none of them related to the incident involving the young boy.
WSP said that no charges are expected to be filed.
