24-year-old Kenmore woman charged with felony hit-and-run in man's death
SEATTLE -- A felony hit-and-run charge was filed Thursday against a 24-year-old Kenmore woman who is accused of hitting and killing a 31-year-old man walking on the shoulder of a road in Kenmore early Monday morning.
The defendant, Sydney Katelane Jones, was driving a pickup truck when she allegedly struck Joseph David Humphreys, who was walking on the shoulder at about 1:30 a.m. in the 18400 block of 62nd Avenue NE. The defendant did not stop after hitting the victim, prosecutors said.
Jones, who surrendered to police later Monday, posted a $25,000 bond and is out of jail. Her arraignment is set for Nov. 7.
The King County Prosecutor's Office said Jones drove her pickup truck home after hitting Humphreys. "She got her dog and walked back to the scene," the prosecutor's office said. "At the scene, she called the police to report that she was walking her dog and found a dead man on the side of the road, apparently hit by a car. At no time did she reveal that she had been the driver of the car involved."
At about 2 p.m. Monday, Jones surrendered to police. "She admitted to driving too fast and to being distracted lighting a cigarette," the prosecutor's office said.
The report said that Jones, who recently returned to Washington state after having lived in Arizona, did not have a valid driver's license, but that she has no criminal history.
