27-year-old Tacoma man with infant in car arrested after deadly head-on crash
ISSAQUAH, Wash. -- Deputies say a driver is under arrest after a crash Tuesday morning near Issaquah that left a 53-year-old Maple Valley man dead.
According to the King County Sheriff's Office, deputies noticed a black Kia driving erratically on SR 18 before 7 a.m. and began pursuit. The deputy was forced to call off the pursuit for safety reasons because the driver would not stop.
A short time later, deputies came upon a head-on crash on 276th Ave SE, just south of SR 18. They said witnesses at the scene were trying to help.
The 53-year-old driver of a minivan, a resident of Maple Valley, died at the scene.
The suspect fought with police who were trying to help him at the scene, deputies said. They also found an infant unharmed in the backseat of the Kia.
Both were taken to Valley Medical Center to be checked out.
Deputies said the 27-year-old driver of the Kia -- a man from Tacoma -- was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and then booked into the King County Regional Justice Center for investigation of vehicular homicide.
