2nd person dies in Auburn park shooting; 1 arrested

AUBURN, Wash. (AP) — Police say a second person has died from a shooting at a park in Auburn, Washington, and a 39-year-old man has been taken into custody.

Auburn Police Commander Steve Stocker said Tuesday that the 29-year-old woman died at Harborview Medical Center. A 32-year-old man died at the scene of Sunday night's shooting in Les Gove Park.

He says the victims are considered transients who had ties to the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, area. They were in Auburn to work at firework stands.

After interviewing witnesses, detectives identified a suspect and a truck he was driving. Around midnight Monday, officers spotted the truck and found the man sleeping inside. He was detained, as investigators worked to get a search warrant to search his truck.

Stocker says it appears the two victims and suspect knew each other.

He declined to release a possible motive or details about the weapon used.
