45-year-old man dies of injuries from accident on I-5 near I-405

SEATTLE — A 45-year-old man was fatally injured in a collision between a car and a truck on southbound Interstate 5, near the I-405 interchange, in Tukwila late Monday afternoon.

The Washington State Patrol said several people performed CPR on the man at the crash scene before medics arrived. He was taken to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

He was not immediately identified.

By the time the lanes reopened Monday evening, the Washington State Department of Transportation said the traffic backup stretched 4 miles. It had stretched up to 7 miles at one point.
