8 hospitalized after six-vehicle crash in Everett

EVERETT, Wash. -- Authorities say eight people were hospitalized Monday after a string of crashes in Everett.

It happened at about 7:30 p.m. in the area of Broadway and Everett Avenue.  The Everett Fire Department says one of the eight people taken to the hospital had a critical injury, and one of the vehicles involved was on fire when responders arrived.

Six vehicles were involved in the crashes. Broadway was closed between 26th Street and California Street for hours as police investigated the incidents.

Police and witnesses said a pickup truck was seen speeding down the street at 60-plus mph just before the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Investigators said they found open alcohol containers inside the truck.

Police said Tuesday that the driver of the truck is expected to face vehicular assault charges after he is released from the hospital.
