Anacortes school finds place in the sun
ANACORTES- Anacortes Middle School will become the first school in Skagit County to be fueled by solar power and funded by community investors.
Through the Skagit Community Solar Project, a group of 22 community members invested in a piece of the huge solar array mounted on the middle school roof.
The solar panels will provide the school with power, while the members who own shares will benefit from a Washington state tax incentive program.
Project manager Eric Shen told Goskagit.com, "Community solar projects...are typically highly visible and signal to the public that this is a mainstream energy production. We'd like to see...a wider use of renewable energy to reduce the use of coal, all of which are contributing to global warming."
The public is invited to a switch-flipping ceremony at 1:30pm Friday, September 27 at Anacortes Middle School.
