Apparent drug dispute leads to fatal shooting at Puyallup motel
PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Homicide detectives say a 26-year-old man has died after being shot in the chest inside a Puyallup motel room.
Officers were called to the Northwest Motor Inn on South Meridian Street just before 5 a.m. Saturday.
At the scene, they found a man with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police the suspected shooter, a 25-year-old man, left the scene in a vehicle.
He later returned and was arrested by police.
Investigators believe a drug-related dispute had erupted shortly before the shooting.
Several other people were in the room. They were taken to the Puyallup Police Department for further questioning.
One northbound lane of South Meridian Street was closed between 15th Avenue Southeast and 14th Avenue Southeast for several hours.
The Puyallup Police Department's Major Crime Unit and Special Investigations Unit are managing the investigation.
