At least 4 people shot at multiple locations across Phoenix area, shooter on the loose

MESA, Arizona, AZ (KPHO) -- At least four people were shot -- one of them possibly killed -- in Mesa Arizona Wednesday morning, and the suspect is on the loose.

Officers are actively looking for that suspect, a bald white male in his 40s. He has a tattoo on his neck and was wearing a gray shirt and black pants or shorts.

The first 911 call came in between 8:30 and 9 a.m., with more following quickly.

The second call involved a carjacking at Bistro 13, a restaurant run by EVIT. That vehicle has since been located.

Police are working as many as six different scenes.

Details were slow to emerge, but the Mesa Fire and Medical Department confirmed that it was treating multiple patients, including three people at the Tri-City Inn on Main Street.

A woman whose sister lives at the Tri-City Inn told reporter Jill Galus that her sister's boyfriend was shot and killed. Police, however, have not confirmed that.

Another woman reportedly was driving on Main Street between Longmore and Alma School Road, which is near Mesa Community College, when a bullet struck her car, shattering a window.

Aerial video from the scene showed police going through an apartment complex in the area of Southern Avenue and Dobson Road. Police were searching vehicles as they left the neighborhood.

At this point, investigators do not know what spawned the shootings.

EVIT was locked down for a time early in the situation, but that has since been lifted although afternoon classes have been canceled.

Westbound Main Street is closed between Alma School and Dobson roads. It is not clear how long it will be shut down.

Valley Metro said four bus routes -- Route 40, Arizona Avenue LINK, Main Street LINK and Route 104 -- are on detour.

"Light Rail service is not affected," Ann Glasser, a Valley Metro spokeswoman said in an email to media outlets.
