Attempted luring suspect tells girl, 'I'm going to get you'

BONNEY LAKE -- Another case of child luring has parents in Bonney Lake upset. A 14-year-old girl says a man pulled up next to her in a van and told her, “I’m going to get you.”

Police say at that at about 6:30 a.m Thursday, a 14-year-old girl was on her way to her bus stop on Angeline Road when a guy in a van kept driving by, making her nervous.

The girl said the van pulled up right next to her and the driver said, “I’m going to get you.” Then she ran away.

Bonney Lake police officer Daron Wolschleger said, “She turned around and ran, which is the right thing to do, and went and hid behind a tree and made a phone call for somebody to come get her.”

The guy is described as a heavyset, white man in his 40s or 50s with light-colored facial hair and pale skin. He was wearing a gray hoodie and driving a dark red van with tinted windows.

This is just one of many attempted luring cases in our area. In Lacey last month, a man allegedly used money to try to grab a small boy on his way to school.

And, just last week, a man tried to lure a girl into his car near Tumwater.

Now Bonney Lake parents are dealing with their worst fears.

Because of what happened, Elise Hughes wanted to be there when her son got off the bus.

“It just makes me nervous but it makes me realize also that I need to talk to my kids every day about it,” she said. “Especially the ones riding the bus and walking from our house. It’s a short distance but it can be just like that.”

The incident is upsetting for moms and dads

“I’ve got two girls,” Eric Carazo said.  “I’ve got a 3-year-old and an 8-year-old. Heaven help him if anything happened to them. This just doesn’t happen around here."

Police are advising children to walk in groups to and from school or the bus. Officers have also planned to increase patrols in this area when kids are getting on and off buses.
