Baby giraffe born at Woodland Park Zoo
SEATTLE -- One of the tallest babies in Seattle was born Tuesday night at Woodland Park Zoo.
Mom Olivia, a 6-year-old Rothschild's giraffe, gave birth to the 5 1/2-foot baby just after 7 p.m.
It's unknown if the calf is a baby boy or girl. The baby is off-view for visitors to allow for a quiet environment for bonding and nursing with its mom.
Zoo staffers say it will be a minimum of a few months before the calf is introduced to the zoo's African Savanna.
The zoo has been having quite the baby boom with the baby giraffe, four Asian small-clawed otters, baby porcupine, triplet jaguars, twin sloth bears and quadruplet lions all born in the past several months.
