SEATTLE -- The biggest music collaboration in town is dropping tonight.

No, we're not talking Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. We're talking renown classics conductor Ludovic Morlot and rapper Sir Mix-A-Lot.

Mix-A-Lot is joining Seattle artist Pickwick and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra for Sonic Evolution, a night that celebrates the past, present of future of local music. The event begins at 8 p.m. at Benaroya Hall. It will feature brand new symphonic compositions inspired by Bill Frisell, Ray Charles and Sir Mix-A-Lot and will be written by composers Luis Tinoco and Du Yun and Gabriel Prokofiev.

This is the fourth Sonic Evolution event, a program that partners up-and-coming composers with other contemporary musicians.

Sonic Evolution is presented as part of the Seattle Symphony’s New Music WORKS initiative, supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. New Music WORKS features commissions, concerts and educational activities that use composition as a catalyst for collaboration and engagement in music.
