Ballard neighborhood turns out for meeting on proposed homeless camp

SEATTLE -- Dozen of residents in the Ballard neighborhood turned out Monday night for a meeting to hear and talk about a proposed homeless camp.

The city wants to use a vacant lot on Market Street for a homeless encampment, starting this fall.

Critics say the location -- between a bar and VFW hall -- is no place for a transient camp.

The city hasn't given a solid timeline for the homeless camp to open.

But City Council member Mike O'Brien said Monday night the city hopes to have it up and running "before the weather gets cold."
