BC cyclists add to traffic at the Skagit River bridge
MOUNT VERNON - Motorists in the Mount Vernon / Burlington area had more company on the roads Saturday, as hundreds of bicyclists from British Columbia headed south on a two-day fundraising bike ride to fight cancer. The Ride to Conquer Cancer bike riders were expected to arrive in Skagit county between 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, the Washington State Department of Transportation reported.
Motorists were advised to use caution and watch out for bicyclists. The bicyclists route takes them on city, county and state roads, the WSDOT reported. The two day Ride left Vancouver, BC Saturday morning, and finishes in Redmond, Washington on Sunday.
Drivers through the area are encouraged to take an alternate route: southbound, drivers should take exit 230 off I-5 onto westbound Highway 20 to Best Road. Northbound, drivers should use the standard detour. Fore more information: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I5/SkagitRiverBridgeReplacement/Special+Event.htm
