Bellingham students -- armed with $30 each -- to 'pay it forward'
Bellingham students will perform random acts of kindness to strangers as part of a class project.
SEATTLE -- Bellingham High School students will "pay it forward" by performing random acts of kindness for strangers this week.
The students will be dispersing almost $1,000 donated from local businesses in downtown Bellingham.
According to The Bellingham Herald, the students are members of Jamie O'Briens's marketing class. For a recent classroom exercise, they formed teams and made sales pitches to a panel of four local business people. The judges were so impressed, they decided to give the class $1,000 to distribute in some way that would benefit the most people.
After debating what to do with the money, they decided on the "pay it forward" approach.
On Wednesday morning, the students will canvass the downtown area, each armed with $30 to spend on other people. In addition to buying coffee and snacks for unsuspecting strangers, they will hand out cards explaining their mission and encourage recipients to continue the trend by doing a good deed for others.
