'Best Town' contest: Entrepreneur creates video on 'what you can do all in one day' in Port Angeles
PORT ANGELES -- Local entrepreneur Jacob Oppelt said Friday he put together a video in an attempt to win the title of "America's Best Town" for Port Angeles.
It's all part of an Outside magazine 2015 "Best Town Ever" contest that is still under way.
Port Angeles defeated Bar Harbor, Maine, by 6,350 votes in the semifinals and now faces Chattanooga, Tenn., for the title championship.
Voting for the championship town will continue until 8:59 p.m. June 4 (the link to vote is here -- Outside: Vote for America’s Best Town). The winner should be known shortly after 9 p.m. on June 4.
Referring to his video, Oppelt wrote in an email, "I came up with this idea to put together a video of what you can do all in one day here in Port Angeles, and its awesome!! My reasoning behind this is, in the event we lose, is to challenge Chattanooga to show me a better day in their city, than I can show them in mine.
"Their population is 175k versus our 19k, and in my opinion that is not fair. So, in this video do multiple outdoor activities and highlight multiple outdoor destinations here surrounding Port Angeles."
"This includes, but is not limited to, an aerial from a helicopter, white water rafting through the recently removed Elwha dam, finding hot springs to soak in, cliff jumping in the lake, biking (mountain and road), hiking, surfing, paddle boarding, canoeing, etc.
"I really would like to get this video viral and hopefully level the playing field. They got nothing on the Northwest!!"
And with that introduction, here is his video:
