Boy dies in Fourth of July parade float accident

(CNN) -- A young boy died Thursday in an accident at a July Fouth parade in Oklahoma.

He either fell or jumped off the float and was run over by the trailer carrying it, according to police in Edmond, just north of Oklahoma City.

The boy's father was driving the trailer. He rushed out of the vehicle, and he and a nurse who had been riding in a car behind the float performed CPR on the child, police said.

The boy was later pronounced dead at a hospital, police spokeswoman Jennifer Monroe said. Monroe said the boy was about 7 or 8 years old. Police did not release the boy's name.

The boy's float had a martial-arts theme, Monroe said.
