Cafe raises money for employee with brain tumor
SEATTLE -- A local hot spot in Ballard is throwing a birthday party this weekend for a very special employee.
Our news partner the Ballard News Tribune reports that Asher Deaver has been working the Kiss Cafe since 2011. A few months ago, he suffered a major seizure while he was visiting family in Arizona. The diagnosis was grim -- doctors told Deaver he had a brain tumor that would require surgery.
After hearing the news, the owners of Kiss Cafe decided to put together a benefit for Deaver on Sat., July 27 -- four days after his 23rd birthday.
It will be an all-day benefit that includes a raffle and live, silent auction. Deaver, who is an artist, musician and carpenter in addition to his work at the cafe, will perform with his friends at 9 p.m. All tips that day will also go toward Deaver's uncovered medical expenses and the costs associated with being out of work following the surgery.
The Kiss Cafe is located at 2817 NW Market Street in Ballard.
