Change your clock, and your batteries too this weekend
BELLEVUE, Wash. --This weekend we turn our clocks back for daylight savings time, but fire departments around Puget Sound say it's also a great time to change your batteries too.
More than 6,400 fire departments across the country are taking part in the "Change Your Clock Change Your Battery" program. The program reminds families to replace the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors when they turn back the clocks.
38 percent of fatal fire injuries occur in homes without working smoke alarms and 24 percent occur in homes where at least one smoke alarm is present, but fails to operate.
On Tuesday, Energizer, Bartell Drugs and the Bellevue Fire Department went door to door to ensure that area residents have working smoke detectors.
Firefighters suggest having a smoke detector on every floor, in every living area. They also recommend you test the batteries at least once a month.
