WENATCHEE -- It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, especially if you're in the Wenatchee area.

Christmas tree permits are now on sale, providing families with the welcome opportunity to cut down their own holiday tree in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Each permit allows a family to cut down one tree, up to 15 feet in height or dig up a small transplant tree. The permits are $5 and are available at all Okanogan-Wenatchee ranger stations and the forest headquarters.

The Forest Service offers these tips and hints:

Before leaving home, notify a friend or family member of the planned route of travel and expected return time.  Stick to the plan and be sure to contact that individual upon returning home.

Check road conditions with local ranger district offices.
