Citizen thwarts attempted luring of 14-year-old girl in Renton, deputies say

RENTON, Wash. -- Authorities are warning the public about an attempted luring Monday afternoon near Northwood Middle School in Renton.

According to King County sheriff's deputies, a white man in a tan pickup truck tried to lure a 14-year-old girl around 3:30 p.m. near the 18100 block of 172nd Avenue SE.

Officials said an alert citizen scared off the suspect and the girl was not harmed.

The luring attempt happened near Northwood Middle School and Ridgewood Elementary School.

A person emailed Q13 FOX News later Monday night to say it was her daughter who reported the incident. She said her daughter told her the pickup truck was in the Northwood Middle School parking lot.

The girl said the truck pulled ahead of her and then off to the side of the road and the driver asked if she wanted a ride. He was asking other kids, too, she told her mom.

She said "no" and took off. She told her mom that he came back toward her, but luckily an older man told the driver to get out of there.

No further description of the suspect or vehicle was available.
