'Click it or Ticket' campaign declared a success
OLYMPIA -- New numbers show Washington's "Click it or Ticket" campaign was a successfull venture for Puget Sound law enforcement groups.
According to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, authorities statewide beefed up patrols between May 20 and June 2 looking for unbuckled drivers and passengers, and motorists using their cell phones or other electronics.
In King County, 387 seatbelt infractions were written, in addition to 322 cell phone/texting or usage of other electronic device tickets. Authorities in the county also made five DUI arrests. 50 speeding violations, and 16 child passenger safety infractions were also issued this year.
In Pierce County, law enforcement handed out 393 seatbelt infractions, and 158 tickets to drivers talking or texting behind the wheel.
Statewide, 2,321 seatbelt violations, and 1,448 cell phone/texting tickets were issued during the 2-week campaign.
