Coast Guard works on fuel spill from sunken boat at Astoria
ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — The Coast Guard is working to stop a fuel spill from a sunken vessel near Astoria on the Oregon and Washington coasts.
A 67-foot commercial fishing vessel was sinking at its pier at the Westhaven Marina in Westport, Washington, and had released a potential 250 gallon of diesel fuel and 15 gallons of oil on Sunday.
The Coast Guard placed a boom around the vessel after a rainbow sheen was seen in the water. They are working with local authorities to oversee cleanup of the spill and salvaging of the vessel.
