Costco aims to open 36 new stores within a year
Costco plans to bring gigantic packages of toilet paper and toothpaste to more people around the world with the opening of as many as 36 new stores by October 2014. Half of those stores will be outside the U.S., KPLU radio reported.
Issaquah-based Costco has already opened four warehouses since the beginning of September and plans to open 11 more by the end of 2013, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Costco CFO Richard Galanti said the company has worked to gain a foothold in countries including Canada, Mexico and Australia in recent years and is expanding from those planted seeds.
Sales in the company rose one percent to $31.8 billion in the fiscal quarter ending Sept. 1. New member signups also jumped 9 percent, after three store openings in Japan.
