Crews contain small gas leak at Westfield Southcenter Mall
TUKWILA, Wash. -- The Westfield Southcenter Mall will open at its normal time Friday after a small gas leak.
Fire officials said a security guard smelled gas inside the mall around 5 a.m. and reported the leak to 911.
Apparently a pilot light on the stove was left on which filled the area with natural gas.
Tukwila Fire officials said while this was a minor event, the gas leak and massive explosion in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood is not far form people's minds.
They said this was a very small leak and the security guard did the right thing by calling for help immediately.
Crews were airing out the mall and said it should open on-time today.
The only people inside the mall at the time were security crews and a few employees getting ready for the day.
