Crews find body of maintenance worker whose truck drove off Hood Canal Bridge
HOOD CANAL -- Searchers found the body of a missing man and his truck at the bottom of Hood Canal early Monday, about 150 feet north of the bridge.
Transportation officials said the maintenance employee apparently drove off the Hood Canal bridge. The unidentified worker had been missing since May 16.
Acting Transportation Secretary Roger Millar told employees of the DOT about the discovery in an email Monday morning.
The worker's vehicle was found 344 feet below the surface.
Officials are calling on a Seattle salvage company to help them recover the vehicle and the man. The timing of that recovery will depend on tides, currents and equipment needs.
Searchers used sonar to scan the bottom of Hood Canal over the weekend to search for the missing worker.
WSDOT updated its logo on Monday with a black band across it in memory of their employee.
