CSI Auburn: Local high school club investigates staged scenes

AUBURN-The Forensics Crime Scene Club at Thomas Jefferson High School claims they are one of the best CSI teams in the state.

While investigating fake murders and crime scenes set up by a teacher at the school, the group of three students enters a crime scene and tries to piece together what happened. There are fake guns, fake bullets and fake blood. Everything fake about what a real Crime Scene Investigator would encounter on the job.

And the reals ones said they're doing a good job.

“Amazingly enough, it’s very accurate,” said Federal Way Police Officer Travis Tilford, who helps perfect the investigation. “Their attention to detail, they are meticulous, detail oriented and so watching them diagram and collect, it’s like a 5 year officer.”

One student said the fake scene is more real than anything one would see on a show.

“It’s one thing to have books and tell you procedures and protocols but to have real experience, it was a big help,” the student said.

A national competition for high school CSI groups is coming up this month, but they need to raise money to get there. At this point, the group is $1,000 shy of their goal.
