Deputies: Man killed in crash down 40-foot embankment was involved in domestic disturbance

INDEX, Wash. -- A 43-year-old man died Sunday after his pick-up truck left the road and flew 40-feet down a steep embankment, sheriff's deputies said.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, the driver -- whose name has not yet been released -- was in a domestic dispute only minutes before the crash at a nearby home around 9:43 p.m. Sunday.

The man drove from the home, deputies said, and a woman involved in the disturbance called police to report a "very intoxicated" drunk driver.

Ten minutes after the woman reported the drunk driver, deputies received reports of a crash on Mt. Index River Road. When officers arrived, they found the man's car 40-feet down an embankment, and the man dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash and the reported domestic violence disturbance are being actively investigated, police said.
