Detectives arrest man suspected of stealing truck from firefighter participating in charity event
SEATTLE -- Police identified and arrested the man suspected of stealing a truck from a couple visiting Seattle earlier this month to raise money for a charity event.
Nathan Huber was identified by Q13 FOX News viewers after photos of him using stolen credit cards were aired.
Huber will now face charges of vehicle and ID theft, burglary and fraud, sources said. He is being held without bail in King County jail.
“All of our firefighter gear was in the truck, but they took my wife’s computer, wallet and other electronics. They also smoked in the truck and I believe it has some damage on the back panel,” said firefighter Shawn Ellinghouse.
Ellinghouse and his wife Kirsty drove to Seattle from Seeley Lake, MT to participate in the 24th Annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb on March 8, an event where firefighters climb the Columbia Center stairs to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The couple stayed at a hotel in the 200 block of Aurora Avenue. Their 2007 Toyota Tundra was stolen on March 8 at 11:31 pm from the secured hotel parking garage.
At 12:54 am, the suspect wearing an argyle sweater used Kirsty’s credit card at a 7-Eleven on Queen Anne Ave N. At 2:13 am, he’s seen wearing a Denver Broncos jacket at a 7-Eleven on Nickerson Street. That jacket belongs to Kirsty.
The couple’s truck was found on March 12 parked at 1320 Mercer Street. Detectives say it also got two parking tickets at 500 N. Pontius St.
Criminal history
The suspect has an extensive criminal history that stretches back to 1996. It includes convictions for Rape-Second Degree, Robbery-1st Degree and Assault-1st Degree.
Huber also has convictions in 2005 for Trafficking, Indecent Exposure and Possession of Stolen Property.
In 2007, he was busted for DUI and Negligent Driving 1st Degree.
He logged another burglary conviction in 2010 as well as one for a stolen vehicle in 2011.
His most recent conviction was in October of 2014 for Possession of Illegal drugs.
